Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is one of the specialty services offered at Sweet Serenity Massage and Salt Therapy by Donna LaDu. Donna LaDu has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2015, having received her training from Irene’s Myomassology Institute, a renowned school in Michigan. She has a phenomenal ability to customize the session to a client’s needs with any of the following: Therapeutic Massage, Prenatal Massage, Oncology Massage, Reiki or Lymphatic Drainage. She is a member of the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals and loves to fulfill her passion for helping others through touch modalities.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, manual technique that works to activate and encourage our lymphatic system. Our lymphatic system is a complex network of vessels that runs parallel to the blood system and plays a key role in our body’s immunity and elimination of waste products.

In an ideal world, all of our body’s organs, pathways, systems are healthy and working seamlessly together. Life, however, sometimes introduces stresses, illness, injury, activity (or lack thereof), that can cause damage or congestion to the lymphatic system. A lymphatic system that is not running smoothly can result in swelling or inflammation which can be visible (swollen ankles, legs, arms, hands, or puffiness in the face for example) or not so visible (arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other inflammations of connective tissue or the musculoskeletal system). MLD helps to open the lymph vessels, awaken movement where it has become stagnant, to encourage the clearing of the “highways” and “side roads” in the lymphatic transportation network.

A MLD session takes place in a massage type environment, consists of gentle, rhythmic strokes to the key lymphatic pathways of the body, and induces deep relaxation. Clients are encouraged to drink extra water following the sessions to help continue the ‘flushing’ mechanism that the session hopefully sparked.
